Melia, experienced the death of her father when she was 13, leaving her mom to fend for 10 children. This is the story of many of today’s youth.
My father said, “Never Quit. Where there’s a will, there’s a way”. I will remember that until the day I die.
Born into extreme poverty, Melia developed resilience and an entrepreneurial mindset.
She spent her childhood sleeping on an earthen floor and from the age of six, started selling fish and fruits door-to-door to support her parents and 9 siblings.
Despite tremendous hardship, Melia maintained her resolve and was able to provide for her family and put herself through school.
Melia’s prolific career in business and entrepreneurship resulted in her becoming one of the most prominent female entrepreneurs in Malaysia, yet she has never forgotten her roots.
She has stayed passionate about empowering disadvantaged Malaysian youngsters who grow up with no support and few opportunities as she did and has held onto the desire to facilitate solutions for such hardship.
Melia’s involvement in charitable organizations started in 1973. In 2020 in the midst of a pandemic, at the age of 69, she decided to put her resources, energy and experience toward creating her legacy, Catalyst Worldwide Foundation. She is partnering with all who believe in her mission to bring value and foster positive change in the world.
